SOUTH SHORE TACO GUY is a popular authentic Mexican food business based on the South Shore of Massachusetts, specializing in fresh, scratch-made tacos, burritos, bowls, nachos, tamales, guacamole, and more. It started as a catering and pop-up operation in 2015, evolved into a food truck in 2017, and has been voted BEST FOOD TRUCK and BEST TACOS on the South Shore multiple years running.
The owner is Clint Smith, a California native and Air Force veteran who moved to Massachusetts in 1992. Unable to find authentic West Coast-style Mexican food locally, he drew from his roots to create his own - emphasizing simple, fresh ingredients, traditional preparation, and bold flavors reminiscent of California and Texas street tacos. Before this, Clint had extensive restaurant experience, including owning and managing spots like The Jury Room in Quincy and The Cellar in Abington.
What sets SOUTH SHORE TACO GUY apart is Clint’s big-hearted approach: active military veterans, first responders, and law enforcement often eat free as a thank-you for their service (Clint has a background in uniforms himself). Clint is known for paying it forward - offering free meals to single parents, those down on their luck, or anyone who forgot their wallet. In November 2024, he even hosted a “barter for tacos” day at the restaurant, trading food for art, services, gift cards, or whatever customers brought.
In early 2024, Clint opened a brick-and-mortar taqueria at 165 Nantasket Avenue in Hull, Massachusetts - right across from Nantasket Beach - while keeping the food truck and catering going strong. It’s a casual spot with a short menu focused on quality - including vegan options and specials like Tamale Tuesday. Reviews praise it as some of the most authentic Mexican food in the area, often compared to West Coast standards.
